Artificial intelligence is no longer just a tool, it’s becoming something more personal. Always available, always responsive, often non-judgmental. This shift takes center stage in the WDR documentary “Unser Leben mit KI – Nie wieder einsam?”, featuring our team member Paula Ebner, whose research explores why people form emotional bonds with AI.

Her key insight: we apply human social patterns even to chatbots, which is why AI companions can feel surprisingly “real.” But these systems are designed that way, behind them are platforms, data flows, and economic interests.

At the same time, AI can offer something valuable: a safe space to reflect, practice conversations, and explore emotions. This tension between opportunity and risk is exactly what we need to understand as AI becomes part of everyday life.
